Advice to the Graduate

As you move on to bigger and better things, don’t forget the ones who guided you along the way. Your loved ones have watched you grow from a cute little Pre-K kid to bright young person. You had a few turbulent years, but you matured and learned from your mistakes.

I would like to take this opportunity to give you some words of wisdom. There is a time and a season for everything. There will be challenges, but you will overcome. You will continue to make mistakes but you will learn from them. You will learn when to take a stand and fight for what you believe to be right, or when to stay silent and just walk away. Your heart will be broken and you will be sad and angry, but with time you will be able to laugh and dance again. You will work hard and put everything you have into achieving your goals. There will be days you wonder if it’s all worth it. I promise, if you hang in there, you will see all your hard work will pay off. You will be able to look back with a since pride, and see all you have accomplished.

In the words of Dr. Seuss “Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” (Oh the Places You’ll Go, 1990)

An last but not least, Ecclesiastes, chapter 3, verses 1-8 says:

“For everything there is a season,
A time for every activity under Heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
A time to kill and a time heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
A time to search and a time quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.”

Until another day,

AC
